Welcome!

So, you decided to make a New Year’s resolution to lose some weight, but don’t know where to start.  Or you’re determined to eat better starting now, but are overwhelmed with nutritional information.  Or your doctor told you to lose a few pounds, but didn’t tell you how.

Congratulations! You’re in the right place!

I know how overwhelming all the nutrition and fitness information is out there.  All you want to do is get started, but you don’t know where.  There’s so much to learn that it can paralyze you to the point that you never get started.

Well, it’s time to get started. Now!

Beginning today, I’m going to help you on your journey.  Every day, I’m going to give you little chunks of information regarding nutrition, fitness or other health-related topics.  This is information that you can build upon while you march steadily toward your goals.

I hear you – you don’t want to wait that long to get started.  I completely understand.  So, starting now, this is what I want you to do…

  1. Start moving!  You can take a long, brisk walk or simply walk around the block. Depending on your physical condition, this can be a 5 minute walk or a 30 minute walk. Walking is cheap and easy to do.  Is there snow outside?  Then go to your local indoor mall and become a “mall walker.”  Like to run?  Then run.  The point is to get your body moving.  Every day.  No one improved their health by sitting on a couch.
  2. Pay attention to what you eat.  It’s pretty easy to reach into the refrigerator and pull out any old thing and start munching.  I don’t want you to count calories or points, I want you to start watching what it is you’re putting into your mouth.  Did you pass up the pretty apple to have that last piece of cheesecake?  I think everyone knows that french fries are not health food, right?  Pay attention to what you eat and why you ate it.  If you’re motivated, write everything down in a journal.  You might be surprised at what you see.
  3. Drink more water.  That’s an easy one.  Water has no calories and can help you eat less  if you have a glass of water before a meal.  Also, if you get into the habit of drinking water throughout the day, you’ll naturally cut down on empty calories like soda pop.  Don’t like the taste of water?  Throw some lemon juice or orange juice or whatever fruit you like into the glass with the water.  Depending on your sex, age and body size, your body is made up of 55 – 70% water.  Give your body the gift of water.
  4. Stop feeling guilty!  Somehow, over the years, you ended up with the body or the unhealthy situation you never thought you’d have.  It can hurt to look in the mirror.  Truth is, it doesn’t matter how you got to where you are now.  The only thing that matters is what you do in the future!  So, shut the door of the past behind you and look at the rosy future in front of you.  Remember the story of the tortoise and the hare?  It’s not about how fast you get to your goal, it’s about never giving up on your way to it.  So, stop beating yourself up and start doing something about it!  Get mad, if that helps.   I have faith in you that you can do this, so darn it, you have faith in yourself!!!

Until next time, just remember… you have no excuses when it comes to your health!
