About JoJo

Hello! My name is JoJo, I’m 50 years old and I’m all about nutrition and fitness!

I think I’ve been an athlete since the day I was able to walk.  Here in my suburban Kentucky neighborhood, I was fortunate to grow up on a street filled with children my age.  There were no video games back in my day, so you went outside and played.  My Mom had a big bell that she would ring that you could hear from a block away, and that was my signal to come in for dinner.

I started playing volleyball in the 8th grade and have been playing ever since.  Indoor, outdoor, 6-man, 4-man, 3-man, 2-man, co-ed or women’s only, you name the type, I’ve played it.  In college, I also fenced and was in the equestrian club.  At 42 years old, I took up bodybuilding, specifically Figure.  Competing in that sport was a revelation to me.  I spent hundreds of hours studying the art of building muscle and ultimately became a Certified Personal Trainer (NSCF).

However, what fascinated me the most was how my diet could affect how much body fat I lost as well as how I felt.  After 3 years of competing, I decided to go back to school and receive my M.S. in Nutrition.  I’m working part-time toward that goal, and am loving every minute of it.

I’ve spent the past 8 or so years using myself as a research guinea pig in order to discover what works and what doesn’t work when it comes to weight loss and better health.  On this blog, I will tell you what I’ve learned through my nutrition and fitness studies and relate that to what I’ve personally experienced.

Over the years, I’ve had a lot of people come up to me and ask me how to get in shape or how to eat better. This is my gift to all of you and everyone new to come!
